The gentle sound of waves lapping against the shore has always calmed my nerves, but today, my heart was racing faster than ever. I, Prathmesh, stood at the edge of the water, watching the sunset paint the sky in brilliant oranges and pinks. The small velvet box in my pocket felt heavier than it should, carrying the weight of my hopes and dreams.

I met Tanisha two years ago on this very beach. She was sketching the lighthouse in her art book, her dark hair dancing in the sea breeze. I remember pretending to jog past her several times, trying to gather the courage to speak. When I finally did, she looked up with those sparkling brown eyes and smiled – a smile that changed my life forever.

Today, I had arranged everything perfectly. The small cove where we had our first date was decorated with fairy lights strung between the rocks, and rose petals formed a path leading to a blanket laid out on the sand. My hands were trembling as I checked my phone – she would be here any minute.

“Prath!” Her voice carried over the sound of the waves, and I turned to see her walking toward me, beautiful in a flowing white sundress. “What’s all this?”

“Just thought we could have a special evening,” I managed to say, taking her hand. Her fingers intertwined with mine naturally, the way they always had.

We walked along the petal path, and I watched her face light up at the sight of the decorations. The fairy lights twinkled like stars, reflecting in her eyes. “This is beautiful,” she whispered.

We sat on the blanket, and I pulled out a small photo album I had prepared. Inside were pictures of us from the past two years – our first selfie at the lighthouse, our beach picnics, the time we got caught in the rain and ended up dancing in it anyway.

“Remember this?” I asked, pointing to a photo of us making sand castles like children.

She laughed, the sound mixing perfectly with the rhythm of the waves. “How could I forget? You were so determined to build a moat that actually worked.”

As we reached the last page, there was a single question written in my handwriting: “Will you turn the next chapter with me?”

I took a deep breath and reached for the box in my pocket. Getting down on one knee, I opened it to reveal the ring I had chosen – a delicate band with a small diamond that reminded me of how her eyes sparkled in the sunlight.

“Tanisha,” my voice cracked slightly with emotion, “these past two years have been the most beautiful chapter of my life. You’ve filled my days with laughter, adventure, and more love than I ever thought possible. Will you marry me?”

Tears welled up in her eyes as she covered her mouth with her hands. For a moment, only the sound of the waves filled the air. Then, she nodded vigorously, unable to speak through her tears.

“Yes,” she finally managed to say, “Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!”

I slipped the ring onto her finger with shaking hands, and she threw her arms around my neck. When our lips met, it felt like our first kiss all over again – soft, sweet, and full of promise. The waves crashed behind us, as if the ocean itself was applauding.

We stayed there until the stars came out, talking about our future, stealing kisses between words. She kept looking at her ring, then at me, then back at her ring, as if making sure it wasn’t all a dream.

“I love you,” she whispered, resting her head on my shoulder.

“I love you too,” I replied, kissing her forehead. “Always have, always will.”

As we sat there, wrapped in each other’s arms with the sound of the waves as our soundtrack, I knew that this was just the beginning of our story. The best chapters were yet to come, and we would write them together, one day at a time, by the sea that brought us together.
